The Story
7 long weeks after Storm Desmond the Dale was still in the midst of recovery when yet more rain descended. Luckily all the great work done since December 5th meant that no properties were flooded that day - but it was a close run thing….

The Story
After a week of “summer” - long hot dry days, we had 24 hours of rain, with 3 hours of intense downpours. The effects came as a shock to us all and show that we still need to do more work to get ourselves ready for autumn….
Following the weekend downpours Fiona came to Glenridding to see the impact of the rain, and check on progress of the flood defences. Most importantly she filmed local hero Carl Scrivens, stalwart of our Community Flood Group, in action as he ticked another job of the long list……
Glenridding and Patterdale has a near miss at the weekend as residents whose homes and businesses flooded in December watched the beck rise a meter and a half in less than 24 hours, sparking concerns that new flood defences need to be built quicker.
A busy Saturday in September as the Parish Flood Group gets busy with help from Rob Butler Services Ltd and the Environment Agency to get more jobs sorted before the winter. With thanks to Mayson Brothers, Waitings and Beckside Construction for donating their machines and the many willing volunteers….

Nearly 2 years after Storm Desmond we had 100mm of rain in about 8 hours. We coped but it got pretty close in places. Many thanks to the many volunteers who helped clear drains and culverts on the day….
