LATEST UPDATES ON THE FLOOD RESILIENCE TEAM

The resilience team is aiming to define an emergency response plan for the Dale. The dale is being divided up in to six designated flood areas, with the aim of appointing two or more flood wardens to look after each area. The scope of the plan will cover everything from communications to sandbags, and will be based both our our experiences and those of others areas who have been flooded in the past.

Thanks to the generous support of the Cumbria Community Foundation and the Princes Countryside Fund we have been able to set up formal Emergency Stores in Glenridding and Grisedale, as well as caches of stores and equipment in Patterdale, Deepdale and Hartsop. This includes everything from sandbags and bottles of water, to shovels, brushes and spades.

We have also developed a community emergency plan with designated volunteer emergency wardens in each area of the Parish who will coordinate responses in any emergency, not just flooding.

We are also working with academics from Newcastle University to set up beck monitoring stations up and down the Parish to give us both online access to cameras at key points but also allow us to start recording beck flow and depth data to monitor the effectiveness of the measures that we have put in place.
