LATEST UPDATES ON THE UPSTREAM BECK MANAGEMENT TEAM

Affectionately dubbed the beaver team,  the aim of this group is to look at practical ways of slowing the water flow off the fells into the valley floor and the lake - no mean feet given the steepness of the fells. The fundamental issue seems to be that this has not been done in terrain like ours before, as a result it is very much work in progress - but very worthwhile work…

Since the middle of 2016 we have been working with the Eden Rivers Trust on a pilot scheme in the Grisedale valley looking at ways of “slowing the flow” through planting and the installation of debris dams. In 2017 we were also fortunate to be awarded a grant from the Princes Countryside Fund and have used this in part to fund further invaluable work in Grisedale and also other areas of the Parish. We are currently identifying potential schemes in Glenridding and Hartsop.
